WOMEN'S EDUCATION IN INDIA

Women have always been a pillar of strength in the history of India and almost constitute as the half of nation’s population. But in spite of this, they were kept out from various main freedom rights like right to vote, right to educate etc. Education of Womens in India has a vital part in the entire progress of the nation. It not just helps with the expansion of half of the human sources, but also in enhancing the lifestyle both at home as well as outside.

Being denied these opportunities, the activists of various eras did wonders to the plight of women in the country and even made various nation wide attempts to alleviate all the problems that the women of their era were facing. Some of these activists like Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, Raja Ram Mohun Roy, Gandhi Ji, Dr B R Ambedkar et al have been a voice to millions of women in the country. And they did all this to mainly help the women education in India to develop and flourish to every single woman in the country and thus eradicate other such social evils like purdah system, etc. These women's rights movements have also played a major role both by the government as well as civil rights activists to educate as many women as possible so that they get to know about their basic civil rights and should not be kept behind a veil to just be termed as the baby producing machines.

Women's right to education also got a boost when the country gained independence from the British rule in 1947 and various steps by the Govt. for this noble cause was never wasted and helped grow the women's literacy rate many folds decade after decade. And since women's education in India also plays a highly crucial role on the whole development of India, it also helps to improve women’s quality of life, both at their home as well as out side of it. Gender discrimination also got less after the consistent literacy movements for females. And there is still a lot to be done in this aspect since India has still to achieve 100 per cent in this noble cause.
