College of Vocational Studies offers degree courses

The College of Vocational Studies offers degree courses that equip you for careers in sunrise sectors like insurance and retail. With access to knowledge getting increasingly easier, it is important to have that extra edge to set yourself apart from competition. Which is why, apart from the mandatory graduation degree, a course in vocational studies is becoming very relevant for students.

The demand for courses at the College of Vocational Studies ( CVS) is increasing, which is evident with the cut- off rising every year. Of all the Bachelor’s programmes, Human Resource Management had an 80 per cent cut- off, while the lowest cut- off, for BA Materials Management, was 76 per cent.

These are all specialised courses with management as their foundation. They are ideal for creating a knowledge base for further studies as well as allowing students to opt for jobs where qualified candidates are preferred over fresh graduates especially in areas such as HR, Marketing Management and Insurance. The college offers seven vocational courses in Office Administration and Secretarial Practice, Management and Marketing of Insurance, Small and Medium Enterprises, Materials Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management and Retail Business. Each programme has been designed to include a vocational base, inter- disciplinary subjects, a foundation course, and a language course.

While a degree from DU is good enough to get you a job immediately after graduation, a vocational programme is helpful in getting exposure to the professional world. During the course of the programme, students are also required to complete practical work within the curriculum.

There are research and project papers in which students study trends in areas such as retail, marketing, consumerism. These require them to get in touch with prominent market players. CVS also proudly proclaims that it does not produce unemployable graduates.

Fifty per cent of the students go for higher studies, but the rest have all got jobs through our courses. In the tourism department, for example, we have a placement cell where we have the best coming in to hire. The course has been designed in keeping with industry demands, so our students have been absorbed by hotels, cruise lines, airlines and the hospitality sector.

The college also offers certificate programmes in foreign languages including French, German and Spanish. Students can study certificate courses in foreign languages and go on to complete a diploma. This opens up an array of opportunities not just in terms of placements but also in higher studies. They can also take the entrance test for M. A. in foreign languages, research in literature, and didactics. The tourism course has been designed in keeping with industry demands
